When Dr. Maertens of Munich, Germany with his shoe sole unit almost literally made of air, joined forces with the Griggs, a family in England who had a history of making quality footwear, and created a boot that was comfortable, practical, hard-wearing and classic in design; little did they know their idea would become an iconic brand and a symbol of youth rebellion.

Originally adopted by those who wanted to be more than carbon copies of their parents, Dr. Martens boots were eventually taken on as part of the uniform of certain groups ranging from mods, goths, punks and grunge. Dr. Martens came to symbolise individuality.

The classic 8 eye boot is now no longer associated with one particular group, instead it is associated with those that want to be individuals.
