NAME: Phil Oh
HOMETOWN: Brooklyn, NY
WHAT DO YOU DO?: I'm a street-style photographer
How did Street Peeper come about and how long has it been up and running?
Hmm, well I just had a novel called 'Secrets of the Model Dorm' published, so I had a bit of free time on my hands. I started taking a couple photos of my friends for fun and blogging about it, and then decided that it was pretty fun. So I hired some web-developer friends to build the website for me. This was about 3 years ago – there were already a couple street style websites out there like The Sartorialist, Face Hunter, and Hel-Looks, so I added the brand-search thing to make Street Peeper stand out. It’s been pretty fun working on!
What do you love about taking photographs?
I really enjoy getting to meet new people while taking street-style photos. I've definitely made some new friends, and gotten a lot of sartorial inspiration from the people I've photographed.
Who or what inspires you?
Sometimes I see people dressed so kooky that I can't help but be amazed, and that inspires me to step up my own game a bit.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be and why?
I'd learn how to cook, because food is my passion and it's embarrassing when I burn toast, overcook eggs, and I could even find a way to mess up boiling water.
An oldie but a goodie of a question - If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
I'd be the Invisible Woman from the Fantastic Four, except I'd probably use my superpower for evil - robbing banks, taking over the world, stuff like that.
