Greetings From Soma Gallery

If you are from Bristol or have been to Bristol, you'll probably know the Soma Gallery; a great place to look at nice things. But who is behind it all? Meet Fiona Hamilton. When not running her gallery-slash-shop and hunting high and low for new stuff to fill it with, she's going to show us her favourite places in Bristol to eat, drink and shop; and why in her words why Bristol is better than London!

Name: Fiona Hamilton

Hometown: Chippenham

What do you do? I run Soma, a small independent gallery space and shop representing a great mix of illustrators, artists and designers. We specialise in original prints and sell jewellery, magazines, textiles and ceramics as well.

Describe Bristol in 3 words:
Better than London!

What do you love about the city?
Bristol has just about everything that London has, except it only has one of everything and you don't have to spend two hours getting across town to get to it! Everyone's really friendly and there's always plenty going on.

Most memorable moment in Bristol:
Watching the fireworks go off over the city one New Year from the steps of the Hillgrove pub in Kingsdown.
The Hillgrove | 53 Hillgrove Street North, BS2 8LT.

What would be an ideal day for you in Bristol?
On a lovely sunny day I'd lunch at the Avon Gorge Hotel overlooking the suspension bridge; followed by a walk down the gorge footpath and along the bottom of the Avon Gorge to Hotwells. Stop for a drink at the Pump House while waiting for the ferry into town. After enjoying the boat journey, sit outside the Arnolfini by the Harbour watching the boats go by.
